Registry of Marriages

UX / UI Website Redesign

Completed at General Assembly,

as part of the User Experience Design Immersive (UXDI) Bootcamp

Overview

Registry of Marriages (ROM), the only place in Singapore for couples to register their marriages. The website is a must go to search for information, procedures, and documents needed to prepare for their marriages. Despite the importance of the website as a to-go place for information, the current website faces a bad visual hierarchy and information organised in a deep hierarchy.

This project is our proposed redesign for ROM. The goal is to transform the registration experience into a more streamlined and convenient process for couples.

What People Say

“ I can’t locate information on how to apply for marriage.”

“It was hard to find a suitable solemnizer so I joined a FB group for brides 2021, to get recommendation on solemnizers (reviews - personality and language)”

“ I could not save back, the filled information will be lost.”

Key Insights

Users find the website is hard to navigate and overwhelmed by the information.

Users find the form is very lengthy and unable to save the progress in between filing the forms.

Users find that hard to find a suitable solemniser for their wedding as there is no information on solemnisers.

Users find that is a hassle for a need to go down to ROM as the couples will need to spare time for verification and Declaration as usually done one day before Solemnisation.

Key Features

Marriage Process at a Glance

Provide users with Marriage Process at a Glance, to prepare users on what to expect on the process as well with step by step guides and documents needed at each step of the process.

Personalised Solemniser Selection

Finding the right Solemniser is one of the hardest and important steps for your dream wedding. You wouldn't want an unsuitable solemniser to ruin your long prepared wedding. We understand that different couples would have different preferences for their solemniser, hence we integrated solemniser selection as part of your marriage process with ROM.

By choosing the traits of the solemnisers, the system will shortlist solemnisers to users that fit the traits. Users are able to view the related information related to solemnisers and decide if the solemniser is the one for them.

If the users already have someone in mind, they will be able to select from the list and proceed to contact the solemniser.

Auto Filled with Singpass

ROM, is one of the Government bodies that have not integrated with Singpass log in.

With Singpass Log in, we aim to ease the user's process to be able save the process at any time and continue the process just by logging in to Singpass again.

By having Singpass log in, the user will also be able to auto-fill the file notice of marriage form with information saved in Singpass to ease the user to manually fill in the whole form.

Users will have a more personalised service with this Singapass Log in.

Virtual Verification and Declaration

After successfully File a Notice of Marriage,  users will be required to proceed to ROM with their original documents for their documents verification and declaration. Appointment usually is 1 working day before your solemnisation day.

Users probably will be extremely busy and hectic, and having the need spare time to go down to ROM to complete their requirements is subject to waiting time.

Hence, we recommend for option to do documents verification and declaration virtually.  Users just need to upload a soft copy of all necessary documents to the platform and have a zoom with the person in charge for verification and declration.

Ideation and Prototype

Ideation

We start our ideation by holding a Design Studio, we think, sketch and come out with new ideas best express how our ideal website should be shown and to drive more new ideas.

Then, we critique and iterate our sketches to a better version. Among the sketches, we pick the best ideas and we combined it into the design that we want to present it to users.

We developed further those ideas we picked by proceeding to get the flow right and start our mid-fi fidelity prototypes to usability testing and end with hi-fi fidelity prototypes.

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

5 / 5

Users think that the website is intuitive and easy to navigate

4 / 5

Users were wondering, where to navigate if they have their preferred solemniser.

Recommendation

To include an option for users to choose if they already have their own preferred solemniser

3 / 5

Users tried to click on the tab as they worried the "submit" button will lead them to submit the form instead of going to the next step

Recommendation

To make the tab less noticeable to avoid users clicking on it and replace the "Submit" button with "Next" and adjust it smaller to be clearer that leading them to the next step instead of submitting the form

3 / 5

Users preferred to be the one contacting solemniser instead of the other way round

Recommendation

To include a WhatsApp's QR code that will directly link to the selected solemniser and users can contact the solemniser directly
