Registry of Marriages

UX/UI Redesign Website
Overview.
The Registry of Marriages (ROM) is the sole authority for marriage registration in Singapore. Its website serves as a critical resource for information, procedures, and documentation required for marriage preparation. However, the current site presents challenges due to poor visual hierarchy and deeply nested content, making navigation difficult.

Our proposed redesign aims to streamline the user experience, making the marriage registration process more intuitive, accessible, and convenient for couples.

Ideation.
We began our ideation with a Design Studio session, where we brainstormed, sketched, and explored creative concepts to shape our ideal website.

Promising ideas were refined through evaluation and iteration, leading to a selected design direction. We then developed mid-fidelity prototypes for usability testing, ensuring a smooth user flow.

The process concluded with polished high-fidelity prototypes, ready for presentation.

Key Features.

Marriage Process
at a Glance
Provide users with a comprehensive overview of the marriage process, including step-by-step guides and a list of required documents at each stage, to help them understand and prepare for what to expect.

Personalised Solemniser Selection
Electing the right solemniser is essential to ensuring a meaningful wedding experience. To support this, the solemniser selection process is now integrated into the ROM journey.

Couples can indicate their preferences, and the system will recommend suitable candidates with detailed profiles to aid decision-making.

If a preferred solemniser is already known, users can easily select and contact them directly from the list.

Auto-Fill with Singpass
ROM is one of the remaining government entities yet to adopt Singpass login.

Integrating Singpass will streamline the user experience by enabling progress saving, easy task resumption, and auto-filling of the Notice of Marriage form using stored personal data—minimizing manual input.

This enhancement offers a more personalized and efficient experience for users.

Online Verification and Declaration
After filing a Notice of Marriage, users are required to visit ROM with original documents for verification and declaration, typically scheduled a day before the solemnization.

To accommodate users’ busy schedules and reduce the need for in-person visits, we propose offering a virtual alternative. Users can upload required documents online and complete verification and declaration via a Zoom session with ROM personnel.
Usability Testing.
5/5
Users think that the website is intuitive and easy to navigate
4/5
Users were uncertain about how to proceed if they already had a preferred solemniser in mind.
Iteration
To provide an option for users to select if they already have a preferred solemniser.

3/5
Users hesitated to click the tab, fearing that the "submit" button would finalize the form submission instead of proceeding to the next step.
Iteration
To reduce the likelihood of users clicking on the tab, make it less prominent, and replace the "Submit" button with a smaller "Next" button to clearly indicate it leads to the next step rather than submitting the form.

3/5
Users prefer to contact the solemniser themselves rather than having the solemniser reach out to them.
Iteration
To include a WhatsApp QR code that directly links to the selected solemniser, allowing users to contact them directly.
